Mbappe: I Missed Much More Than Choupo-Moting This Season

Mbappe: I Missed Much More Than Choupo-Moting This Season

Paris St-Germain's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is making headlines after fluffing a sitter that is being labelled the worst miss in footballing history.

Having put the hosts in front, the Cameroon worldwide incredibly contrived to stop Christopher Nkunku's goal-bound effort at 1-1, and was unable to even turn to the ball into the net.

The score was 2-1 at the time and the game ended 2-2.

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel chose to leave Mbappe on the bench until the 59th minute, a surprising decision especially after the league's top scorer found the net in his seven previous league matches, and in the absence of injured forwards Angel Di Maria, Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

At the time he was being widely mocked on Twitter, Choupo did at least attempt to explain what exactly he was trying to do.

The miss denied Thomas Tuchel's men a chance to win the trophy at the Parc des Princes on Sunday and the Cameroon global feels sorry for his action.

"I wondered if I was offside and it all happened very fast".

We could call this an embarrassing miss (because it was), but really, Choupo-Moting shouldn't have touched the ball at all.

The draw at the Stade Auguste-Delaune moves them five points clear of third-placed Lyon, who slumped to a shock 3-1 loss at home to relegation-threatened Dijon on Saturday.

"At first, I thought that Christopher might pass to me", he said.

Also on Sunday, Nice beat Montpellier 1-0 to leapfrog their opponents into seventh place in the table thanks to a 20th-minute goal from Brazilian defender Dante.

Tuchel's side needed three points to retain the Ligue 1 title but the visitors struck twice in quick succession as the game finished 2-2.

The home side could have gone ahead in the 26th minute but Max Gradel's penalty was well saved by Ciprian Tatarusanu in the Nantes goal.
