Major US airlines hit by delays after glitch at vendor

Major US airlines hit by delays after glitch at vendor

Multiple airlines are recovering from a computer glitch that left thousands of flights delayed and hundreds canceled across the US.

The FAA told Fox News in a statement the airlines were experiencing issues "with a flight planning weight and balance program called Aerodata".

According to posts from airline social media accounts, the issues impacted flights system-wide.

At least five airlines were affected: Delta, Southwest, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue.

The spokesman, Greg Martin, said the outage was "short-lived" and delays should be "minimal".

A technical outage is impacting major airlines Monday morning and causing flight delays that may impact travel.

It's unclear how numerous delays were caused by the AeroData issue. The airline did not anticipate flight cancellations.

Allegiant Air - 2192 to Orlando/Sanford - 7:54 a.m. - Delayed to 8:10 a.m. Airlines are urging passengers to monitor flight times for changes throughout the day.

There was a "system-wide" outage that began shortly before 5:30 a.m. Such calculations also must be approved by airline dispatchers in remote offices, complicating flight schedules if communications or computer systems crash.
