Graham: 'Obamacare Cannot Be Fixed; It Must Be Replaced'

Graham: 'Obamacare Cannot Be Fixed; It Must Be Replaced'

In 2006, Romney signed into law a MA health care regime that had numerous same features - a mandate, insurance marketplaces and subsidies for premiums - that Democrats under President Obama would go on to adopt with their passage of the Affordable Care Act. According to a new Urban Institute study, abolishing the ACA without anything to replace it would cause 20 million Americans to lose their health insurance.

Bernie Sanders (I-VT) predicted "thousands of people" would "literally die" if President Donald Trump uses the courts to strike down the Affordable Care Act. They had built no consensus among Republican politicians or voters.

Mr. Trump said he tasked specific Senate Republicans Thursday to form a "really great" health care plan and follow through with his promise to make the Republicans "the party of health care".

Trump's decision to support a ruling that would fully dismantle Obamacare, even as his administration has no viable alternative, is a risky gamble.

The case "probably ends up in the Supreme Court", Trump continued. His ruling is being appealed by attorneys general from Democratic-led states to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

"The administration will continue to fight for sole proprietors and small businesses so that they can have the freedom to band together to obtain more affordable, quality healthcare coverage", a Justice Department spokesman said. No such working group appears to exist, however. Rick Scott (R-FL), Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who voted against a GOP repeal effort in 2017.

Just a day earlier, Marc Short, Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff and the former White House legislative affairs director, claimed on CNN that "the President will be putting forward plans this year" to replace Obamacare through Congress. Republicans can choose whether to respond to that attack by pointing to their own plan, or by letting Democrats devise a caricatured conservative plan to tie to them.
