The Apple Card is Apple's biggest announcement of 2019 so far

The Apple Card is Apple's biggest announcement of 2019 so far

Apple apparently won't have access to any of those information, while Goldman Sachs "promises" not to abuse the privilege of having access to this data.

Apple just announced a new credit card called Apple Card.

However, the next trend Apple starts might not be in phones, but in credit cards.

According to Apple, its digital credit card will have no late fees, no annual fees, no worldwide fees and an interest rate among the lowest in the industry, however the fine print on this last point shows a pretty standard range of interest.

The Apple Card lives in your Wallet app on your iPhone.

The physical card itself is made out of titanium, with the owner's name laser-etched on it.

Which the company has finally launched as "Apple Card". Customers will still have to pay interest, but Apple said that rates charged will be "among the lowest" in the industry.

It's also expected that Apple could one day bundle them together with its other services like Apple Music, iCloud storage and Apple Warranties to offer a discounted super Apple bundle. For instance, users earn 3 percent cash back on any Apple product purchases, and 2 percent back on anything bought with Apple Pay only.

Apple is also quick to specify that there will be "no ads, ad tracking or additional purchases" - which will help distinguish it from the exploitative end of free-to-play games often found on mobile. The Apple Card doesn't offer that.

Apple Card also does not require signatures at point-of-sale terminals for any credit cards. Apple also said for privacy reasons it doesn't track where payments are made and for how much. By moving these crucial details into the digital wallet, Apple hopes to improve security should a user lose their card. More mature and pragmatic than its older millennial forbearers, the cohort is savvy with both finances and technology, survival skills that members gained after watching siblings and parents suffer through the 2008 recession.

Apple Card - what makes it unique?

But there are some skeptics. However, whether it will meaningfully penetrate an already saturated market remains to be seen. But the product's features make it the credit card equivalent of a Red Delicious: relatively ubiquitous and somewhat bland.

But if you're not a developer then you can join the Apple Developer Program, which includes a signup fee of $100.

Apple is partnering with Goldman Sachs and Mastercard to provide the support of an issuing bank and global payments network. "We think the breadth and quality of publications within Apple News+ will encourage more people to discover stories and titles they may never have come across before". Below, a look at some of the social media reaction.
