Terrifying Moment Plane Struggles To Land At Heathrow During Storm Erik

And a terrifying video, above, showed the moment a British Airways jet aborted its landing at Heathrow with just seconds to spare as winds became too severe.

"Our highly skilled pilots regularly train to conduct the standard manoeuvre known as a "go around", A British Airways spokeswoman told United Kingdom media.

Storm Erik is set to bring strong gusts and heavy rain to the United Kingdom, as the weekend gets off to a wet and windy start. She said: "We have got more wind and rain today all courtesy of Storm Erik".

"We're expecting a widespread frost on Sunday night and into Monday, and the unsettled weather will continue into the start of next week".

"But Erik could bring the possibility of 70mph gusts along more exposed coasts".

One man died after a tree fell on his vehicle in Devon on Friday morning.

The strongest wind gusts were recorded in Mayo and Galway - in Belmullet Mayo a gust of 115km/hr has been recorded with a mean wind speed of 83km/hr while at Mace Head, Galway a gust of 122km/hr has been recorded with a mean wind speed of 83km/hr according to the Donegal Weather Channel.

DORSET POLICEThe massive tree struck the bus on Ringwood Road in Poole, police said.

There's also an orange warning in place for the marine, as a result of high winds.

The Erskine Bridge over the Clyde and the Skye Bridge were closed to tall vehicles while the Tay Road Bridge was open to cars only yesterday.

The rain and high winds had already led to weather warnings across large swathes of the country, with speeds of up to 75mph reported in Scotland and 84mph in Wales.

Much of the country will see strong winds and rain showers, some mixed with hale and becoming thundery, meteorologist Alex Burkill said.

"Sunday will see outbreaks of rain across England and Wales, could see some snow for a time over the hills, especially over northern England and Wales".

Storm Erik is bringing winds of up to 60mph.
