Sen. Klobuchar launches 2020 presidential campaign

Sen. Klobuchar launches 2020 presidential campaign

And she said that on first day as president, she would have the USA rejoin an global climate agreement that Trump has withdrawn from.

They, like many of her constituents, were not surprised, but think she will continue to focus on being a senator for Minnesota.

Klobuchar hopes her moderate policies and strong electoral record in Minnesota will help her win back states Trump took from Democrats in the 2016 White House contest, including nearby Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan, Wisconsin, as well as Pennsylvania.

Klobuchar never mentioned President Donald Trump's name, but decried what she called "petty and vicious" politics and government in a state of "chaos".

Among the other Midwestern lawmakers who could also seek the nomination are Senator Sherrod Brown of OH, who has been visiting early-voting states, and Pete Buttigieg, the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who established an exploratory committee last month.

Klobuchar, who gained national attention after speaking at the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last fall, has served in the Senate since 2007.

On her first full day of presidential campaigning, Ms Warren - a senator from MA - told supporters: "By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president. I have that grit", Klobuchar said.

"Not unusual. It's the right way to get here", said Dale Peterson, of Minneapolis. "I have neighbours. I have all of you". She's beloved in her state as a smart, amusing and personable lawmaker and has gained national attention for her lines of questioning at high-profile hearings. Leaders of the Minnesota Republican Party frequently criticize her as an overly cautious politician who plays it safe by focusing on broadly popular issues such as consumer protection even as she reliably votes with Democrats on more controversial measures. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota announced she is entering the race for president Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis.

Klobuchar is already scheduled to speak February 21 in Iowa, the site of the nation's first caucuses on the nominating calendar.

The primary field soon could expand to include prominent Democrats such as former Vice-President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. She's also the top Democrat on the Senate Rules Committee, a post that had her working with Republican Chair Roy Blunt of Missouri in 2018 on legislation improving how sexual harassment complaints against lawmakers are handled.

During Sunday's "CNN Newsroom", commentator Ana Navarro reacted to President Donald Trump's tweet that mocked Sen.

Klobuchar was born and raised in Minnesota. She earned a law degree from the University of Chicago, and in 1998 was elected as attorney of Hennepin County, which is Minnesota's most populous.

Klobuchar responded to questions about the reports Sunday. "I was leading the ticket, and I believe you need people that will go not just where it's comfortable, but where it's uncomfortable and be willing to work with other people that you don't always agree with for the betterment of this country". Some progressives said she'd lacked the kind of fire and bold ideas needed to bring significant change and excite voters.
