Pulwama attack: India is threatening regional security, alleges Pakistan foreign minister

Pulwama attack: India is threatening regional security, alleges Pakistan foreign minister

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has retained Pakistan on their "grey list" despite India pushing for them to be blacklisted on the global platform over terror funding.

In the wake of the Pulwama attack, India has reportedly been pressuring the FATF to take strict action against Pakistan. This means Pakistan continues to remain in what is called the FATF "grey list", making it hard for that country to get worldwide loans.

Pakistan was put on the greylist previous year which meant the country came under financial jurisdiction with "structural deficiencies" in anti-money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) or simply - supports financing of terror.

Trump claimed that the US's relationship with Pakistan had improved even after he stopped.3 billion in financial aid to that country.

But in a statement legendary Indian batsman Tendulkar said he would rather India had the opportunity to stretch their unbeaten World Cup record against Pakistan when the teams meet at Old Trafford on June 16. Total four organisations were on that list till Thursday.

The FATF noted that Pakistan had taken several steps to implement the Action Plan including undertaking Risk Assessment of Terrorism Financing and Cash Smuggling in the country. It was established by the G7 in 1989 and is headquartered in Paris.

But two Indian government officials dealing with the issue said new information had been provided to the FATF relating to Pakistan after the vehicle bombing last week in the Pulwama district of Kashmir in which 40 paramilitary police were killed.

The FATF will undertake the next review of Pakistan's progress in June 2019 which will be preceded by Face-to-Face meeting with the Joint Group in May 2019.

The attack on Indian troops was claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e Mohammad (JeM) militant group. However, the inter-governmental body issued a strict deadline for Pakistan to comply with a "high-level commitment" to tackle terror networks before October 2019.

Pakistan was earlier placed by the FATF in its Ongoing Compliance Document in view of an Action Plan undertaken by it to strengthen its CFT Regime. Being on the watch list of FATF, it will be hard for Pakistan to get loans from global lending agencies.

Referring to the NSC meeting, the PTI party tweeted, "The Prime Minister (Imran Khan) said that this is a new Pakistan and we are determined to demonstrate to our people that the State is capable of protecting them and believes that monopoly of violence stays with State".
