Cory Booker's optimistic message to be tested in Dem primary

While Booker has been reluctant to attack the President directly, not wanting to emulate his tactics, Trump has not hesitated to target the senator - saying during a White House event in October that Booker "ran Newark, New Jersey, into thecs say Booker did not meet his lofty promises to reshape the city, with some progressives faulting his support for school choice, among other issues". Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and Kamala Harris announced presidential plans, most Democratic strategists and officials consider Booker a top-tier contender who has spent months building relationships and laying organizational groundwork in the early voting states.

"When I was a baby, my parents tried to move us into a neighborhood with great public schools, but realtors wouldn't sell us a home because of the color of our skin", he said.

If the presidential race were a declamation contest, Mr Booker would head the pack.

"We are better when we help each other", he says in the video.

The New Jersey Democrat is facing an array of competitors for his party's nomination. I really do think we're at a moral moment in our country.

"I think a lot of folks are beginning to feel that the forces that are tearing us apart in this country are stronger than the forces that tie us together". Bernie Sanders you can now add Sen.

Booker's candidacy has raised inevitable comparisons to Barack Obama, America's first black president.

On Friday, he will engage in a media tour of radio and television programs, including "The View" on ABC, before making his first trip of the year to Iowa next weekend.

"I'm not in this race to tear people down, '" he said.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) speaks during the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Washington, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019. In 2002, when he made his first, unsuccessful bid for mayor of Newark, he was followed by reporters and documentary crews; a chronicle of the campaign, "Street Fight", was nominated for an Academy Award. Booker is the second black candidate in the increasingly large and diverse 2020 Democratic primary field.

Conway ripped Booker for interrogating President Donald Trump's Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh at a confirmation hearing around sexual misconduct accusations, that turned into a self-described "Spartacus moment".

Four years later, Booker ran again and won, cementing his status as a rising star in the Democratic Party. He has $4.1 million left in his campaign coffers that could also be used to assist his presidential run.

Booker hedged when asked by a reporter if he believed Mr. Trump was a racist.
