AT&T pulls all ads from YouTube over paedophilia controversy

AT&T pulls all ads from YouTube over paedophilia controversy

Watson also demonstrated how, through the platform, users are able to click on one of the videos and easily find more similar. Watson's video went viral and generated a huge discussion on Reddit, prompting YouTube to respond.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, Adweek reported Thursday that YouTube held a conference call with "representatives from all major ad agency holding companies" and other clients in the wake of fresh reports of child exploitation on its platform.

It took YouTube until Wednesday to respond to Watson's February 17 video, but major brands who advertise on the platform didn't wait as long.

'We took immediate action by deleting accounts and channels, reporting illegal activity to authorities and disabling violative comments.

In a statement, Epic Games, which makes Fortnite, said: 'We have paused all pre-roll advertising.

Dr. Oetker asked YouTube "to explain how it could happen that advertising of our company was placed in an environment that we strictly reject and consider highly reprehensible ethically", the company said in a statement.

The problem: Pedophiles are viewing videos of children, leave disturbing comments and then share links to even worse content in the comments section.

It's because of this that Epic Games has made a decision to pull their future Fortnite ads from the platform until further notice. YouTube says it has to think about user privacy before opening to third parties that could poke around its platform.

Bloomberg reports this isn't the first time YouTube has come under criticism for running ads around inappropriate content.

Hopefully, Google scales up the security of YouTube to detect and punish predators, most importantly put a stop to the circulation of the child abuse contents on its video sharing platform service. Disney is now one of YouTube's top advertisers, accounting for 4 percent of ad revenue every year, according to Marketing Dive.

However, many major brands, like Disney, AT&T, Nestle, and Fortnite are jumping ship and halting all YouTube advertising in its wake. Since Newsweek reports, YouTube's calculations appear to have accepted the acronym to mean child pornography. Once you encounter one video carrying the pedophilia-related comments, YouTube will suggest more videos that carry the same illegal comments, according to Watson. YouTube has likewise been detailing comments and accounts to law authorization, which it needs to do in compliance with federal law.
