Morning Roundup: Djokovic, Halep top seeds for Australian Open

After admitting he's "not great", the 31-year-old said to the media in an emotional press conference: "I have been struggling for a long time. But I don't see him playing if he at least doesn't think he can be a factor in a major". Not a level that I'm happy playing at.

A five-time finalist at Melbourne Park, Murray said he had reflected on his future during a training block at the end of a year ago. "I like to play attacking tennis, so I've come full circle". He then became emotional and left the room for several minutes to compose himself.

"I'm not feeling good".

Three-time major victor Murray is on the comeback trail after missing 11 months with a hip injury which has seen him slump to 230 in the world.

The draw for the first Grand Slam of the season was made on Thursday and the top seeds could face some early tests of their credentials when play gets underway in Melbourne on Monday. "The pain is too much really and I don't want to continue playing that way". But having the limitations and the pain is not allowing me to enjoy competing or training.

Asked whether this could turn out to be his last event he replied 'There's a chance of that for sure'.

"I'm in a better place than I was six months ago but I'm still in a lot of pain".

"That's something I'm seriously considering right now".

Six-time Melbourne Park champion Federer, seeded No.3 for his quest for a hat-trick of Australian Open crowns and a record seventh AO titles in all, opens his 2019 campaign against world No. 99 Denis Istomin, while fellow six-time Melbourne victor and men's top seed Novak Djokovic plays a qualifier in the first round.

Men's top seed Djokovic, who was defending his title when he lost to Istomin, will first meet a qualifier in his bid for a record seventh Melbourne title and third Grand Slam crown in succession following wins at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
