Gunman kills 5, including parents, in Louisiana shooting spree

Three people are dead at a scene in Livingston Parish.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The sheriff said three other shooting deaths occurred Saturday in neighbouring Livingston Parish, about 113 kilometres west of New Orleans.

Separately on Facebook, the Ascension Parish sheriff's office said two people were shot dead in the city of Gonzalez.

During the press conference, Webre revealed that Dakota had briefly lived in the trailer with his parents, but "was recently asked to leave the residence and not to return". Their son is being sought on first-degree murder charges. The victims were identified as Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both 51. The victims were identified as 50-year-old Elizabeth Theriot and her husband, 50-year-old Keith Theriot - the parents of the accused gunman.

Webre said Theriot is driving a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck - gray on top and silver on the bottom - that was reported stolen.

Police said his dad was still alive when they arrived at the house and claimed Dakota was the gunman.

The man wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of five people in Louisiana appears to have a Facebook page filled with defensive and sometimes angry posts.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reports that detectives are searching for Dakota Theriot, 21, who is allegedly responsible for a shooting spree across two neighboring parishes located about 70 miles outside of New Orleans.

In May, he shared a post saying "If you have a problem with me, tell me. We feel that they are related", Webre said. They have been identified as Billy Ernest, 43; Summer Ernest, 20; and Tanner Ernest, 17.

"We do not believe the suspect to be in Livingston Parish at this time", Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said.

In the news conference, authorities said they do not believe there are other targets.

Authorities believe the shootings in the two parishes are connected, and investigators are working together.
