Ghana journalist who exposed African football graft shot dead

Hussein-Suale was buried in a public cemetery at Madina, a suburb of Accra in Ghana.

In attendance at the burial grounds were the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Kwaku Baako and Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Ghana Integrity Initiative believes that to end the impunity for attacks on journalists, the police and all other appropriate state agencies must swiftly investigate this heinous crime and make the perpetrators face the full rigours of the law.

"Ahmed was a very good undercover journalist and very experienced and did his work with a lot of precision".

He was reportedly shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck by an unidentified men who were said to be riding a motorbike.

Mr. Hussein-Suale worked as a journalist investigating corruption in many sectors, from government to worldwide athletics, alongside famed reporter Anas Aremeyaw Anas for Tiger Eye PI and the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Speaking at Thursday's press conference, Affail Monney, President of Ghana Journalists' Association called on Ghanaian authorities to bring Hussein-Suale's killers to book.

In turn, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists called on Mr Agyapong last summer to stop threatening journalists. Kennedy Agyapong, circulated the picture of Ahmed on TV and in the media, calling for him to be dealt with by anyone who came across him and he would take the responsibility.

"That boy that's very unsafe, he lives here in Madina".

He is reported to be the investigator who arranged the meeting with former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi in Ghana and overseas.

Eight referees and assistant referees were banned for life while 53 officials were subject to 10-year bans.

Agyapong himself rejected claims that he "engineered the killing" of Husein, telling local radio station Neat FM: 'He has never offended me.
