Champions League final a watershed for Liverpool, says Klopp

Champions League final a watershed for Liverpool, says Klopp

As usual, CityTV we were at the session to capture all the best moments.

In 15 months, Klopp's Liverpool have taken on Pep Guardiola's side five times - three in the Premier League and twice in the Champions League - and the German wants his side to learn from each encounter to use in their preparation. A collective unit combined with stellar individual quality helped Liverpool stay atop the Premier League without losing a single game so far in this season. We will try to win the three points, especially with our fans and we'll try to win that game. "It's a really strong football team with an outstanding manager", Klopp said Wednesday.

Even at this stage of the season it appears to be a game the champions can ill afford not to win, with City seven points adrift of Liverpool.

The Spaniard said: "I know today nobody trusts us". We are seven points down, ' he said.

Knowing that they suffer most when Liverpool get the tempo up, City kept the game slow and stayed much more rigid in position than normal - even though it meant they couldn't double up on certain players at certain times.

"Would I say they are the best team in the world if nobody asked me? No". It's hard with the qualities all the teams have but it's just not important what happens. It's a very, very important game for both teams, obviously.

This will be quite the duel as one of the world's best strikers comes up against arguably the world's best defender.

Liverpool's defence has been so watertight this season that they may fancy themselves to keep City out, and there is no pressure on them to overexert themselves in pursuit of a win - all the onus is on Pep Guardiola's men.

New Balance, the US-based sportswear manufacturer, is said to be in negotiations to extend ties with the English soccer club beyond its existing contract, which runs until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Last January, it was City who were on course to equal Arsenal's "Invincibles" of 2003-04 until they went to Anfield in January and were blown away by a three-goal salvo in nine second-half minutes to lose 4-3 despite a late rally.

Klopp added: "These kind of six-point games, it's how it is, we play against each other and can pretty much go in all directions".

A penalty-shootout win against Leicester saw them scrape through to the Carabao Cup semi-final where they face Burton Albion next week, having had a relatively easy route through the competition.

Jurgen Klopp is without the injured Joe Gomez, who would have made my combined XI alongside Virgil van Dijk if fit, so that is a small boost for City.

Liverpool's two opening goals against Arsenal came after he carried the ball with pacemen Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane pushed forward on either side of him.
