UFC 232 Embedded Episode 2: Fight Week Draws Near

UFC 232 Embedded Episode 2: Fight Week Draws Near

UFC 232 will no longer take place in Las Vegas on December 29th with the event being moved to Los Angeles following Jon Jones' inability to obtain a licence in the state due to an abnormality in a drug test.

A trace amount of Chlorodehydromethyltestosterone (DHCMT), or turinabol, was reportedly in Jones' system.

MMAWeekly.com confirmed the news with California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster on Wednesday, following an initial report by MMAFighting. Two judges scored the fight 48-47 in favor of Jones, while a third gave Jones a three-point edge. Jones was fined and handed an 18-month sentence from the California State Athletic Commission following the UFC stripping him of the light heavyweight title.

The concern began earlier this week when USADA reported an atypical result from a December 9th drug test submitted by Jones. This will allow for a measured, thoughtful and comprehensive discussion of his anti-doping testing protocol and results and provide an opportunity for the NSAC to determine the appropriate path forward for him in Nevada.

Back at UFC 165 in 2013, Jones put his UFC Light Heavyweight championship on the line against Gustafsson and came close to losing it. Jones improved to 19-1 with a unanimous decision victory, it wasn't until the fourth and fifth rounds that Jones took control. UFC fighters, including an outspoken Megan Anderson, mentioned that she wasn't informed of the change and UFC didn't initially make an official announcement about the move.

With the shifting timeframe, much of the licensing process will also be moved from Thursday night to Friday morning during the weigh-ins.

The test result showed an "extremely low level" of the same substance for which Jones tested positive on July 28, 2017, and served a 15-month suspension.

UFC VP of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky said Jones' positive test is not a USADA violation and that Jones has been cleared to fight.

"Jones didn't do anything wrong here".
