LIMBAUGH: Pelosi And Schumer Show Their Colors

LIMBAUGH: Pelosi And Schumer Show Their Colors

Congress is racing to avoid a partial government shutdown over President Donald Trump's border wall.

Republican congressional leaders have repeatedly said it's up to Trump to cut a deal with Democrats, an acknowledgment of their inability to produce spending bills with Republican votes alone.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy says a looming government shutdown would be "stupid" but might be unavoidable if Democrats refuse to support President Donald Trump's proposed border wall with Mexico.

"We are a party of all kinds of people", McCaskill said. Nothing is going to change in that regard.

Schumer said Democrats want to work with Trump to avert a shutdown, but said money for border security should not include the concrete wall Trump has envisioned. Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

"We do not want to let a Trump temper tantrum govern our policies or cause the shutdown of a government, which everyone on both sides of the aisle knows is the wrong idea", Schumer said.

Indeed, Democrats and Republicans have spent billions in funding to build and fix the existing border fence. He assured me that Democrats will never support funding and building a border wall.

"Allow the next Congress to come in, get seated, committee chairs to get filled, and then actually have a full debate on a bipartisan solution", Denham told CNN today. Democrats will be in the House majority due to their wins in this year's midterm elections, which could weaken the position of the White House in future government funding negotiations.

Less than two weeks remain before agencies including the Treasury Department, Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department could see a halt to their funding over the issue, as Congress hits a deadline for seven appropriations bills that still need to be passed. At the same time, Nadler made no suggestion Democrats would pursue impeachment against Trump.

That isn't expected until House Republicans decide on how they plan to proceed. Republican leaders in the House and the Senate should bring a clean bill to the floor in the next week that would fund the wall.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

"President Trump and Mexican President López Obrador spoke yesterday about the positive relations between our two countries".

Schrader last month joined 15 other Democrats in signing a letter saying they would oppose her speakership.

Bill Foster has been part of a group of Democrats unwilling to back Nancy Pelosi for House Speaker unless there was a "clear succession plan" - as he called it - that paved the way for new leadership, which younger elected leaders have wanted. Last weekend, Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler of NY, who will be the next chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, argued that if Trump did instruct his former lawyer, Michael Cohen (the other one), to make hush payments to women who alleged affairs with him, it would represent "impeachable offenses".

The likely next speaker questioned the logic of using any potential economic benefit from the trade deal on a border wall. "It's like a manhood thing for him - as if manhood could ever be associated with him".

What this really means is that Republicans are basically imploring Trump to take the money that's now being offered to him, and find some way of claiming victory.
