Kendrick Lamar, Drake & Cardi B Lead 2019 Grammy Nominations

Kendrick Lamar, Drake & Cardi B Lead 2019 Grammy Nominations

For Best Rap Performance, the nominees are "Be Careful" by Cardi B, "Sicko Mode" by Travis Scott, Drake, Big Hawk & Swae Lee, "Nice For What" by Drake, "King's Dead" by Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Future & James Blake, and "Bubblin" by Anderson.Paak.

He didn't run away with the crown, though, as Drake was right behind him with seven nominations of his own. While both artists have done well in the past on their own - Beyonce with 22 wins to-date and Jay Z follows just behind with 21 - the couple didn't receive any nominations in the main categories this year, such as Album Of The Year or Song Of The Year. Five other songs scored nominations in both categories, including Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" from "A Star Is Born"; Childish Gambino's "This Is America"; Drake's "God's Plan"; Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey's "The Middle"; and Carlile's "The Joke".

After last year's show sparked a major backlash, the Recording Academy created a diversity task force responding to criticism that the show was consistently too male and too white, and ultimately expanded four of the top categories from five nominees to eight.

In May, the head of the Recording Academy - which includes more than 13,000 music professionals - said he would step aside when his contract expires near year, amid outrage after he said women artists should "step up".

Perennial favorite Taylor Swift appeared to fall out of grace, however, earning just one nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album for "Reputation".

But women will also lead in a variety of categories this year. R&B legend Toni Braxton walked away with three nods, including Best R&B Performance, Best R&B, Song and Best R&B Album for Sex and Cigarettes. Justin Timberlake, whose "Man of the Woods" albums flopped earlier this year, picked up a nod for "Say Something", his collaboration with Chris Stapleton.

- Best pop solo performance: "Colors", Beck; "Havana (Live)", Camila Cabello; "God Is A Woman", Ariana Grande; "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)", Lady Gaga; "Better Now", Post Malone.

Mac Miller, who died in September, earned a nomination for best rap album with "Swimming". Plus, Boi-1da, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams were listed in the Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical category.

The Grammy winners will be announced out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 10.
