Amidst CFO Arrest, Chinese Firms Paying Their Employees To Buy Huawei

Amidst CFO Arrest, Chinese Firms Paying Their Employees To Buy Huawei

The names of the two companies will most likely be omitted in the order but, Commerce Department officials "would interpret it as authorization to limit the spread of equipment" made by Huawei and ZTE.

The order follows the passage of a defense policy bill in August that barred the US government itself from using Huawei and ZTE equipment.

"It's best to let facts speak for themselves when it comes to security problems", Ms Hua said.

He said: "We've got to look at what partners such as Australia and the U.S. are doing to ensure they have the maximum security of that 5G network and we've got to recognise that the Chinese state does sometimes act in a malign way".

The executive order would invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a law that gives the president the authority to regulate commerce in response to a national emergency, Reuters explains. Most rural networks in the United States are using Huawei and ZTE telecom equipment, which is nearly four times cheaper than the competition.

As many as 20 of the Chinese companies are reportedly offering their support to the tech-giant Huawei Technologies, after the arrest of the chief financial officer of the company which happened in Canada, earlier in this month. "This is actually tantamount to closing the door of openness on yourself, as well as the door of progress and fairness".

The United States and China are locked in a trade war that has disrupted the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars of goods.

Huawei facing intense scrutiny in the West over its ties to the Chinese government.

Mr Williamson warned that Huawei's role would have to be looked at "very closely" amid growing global concerns from the US, Australia and New Zealand about the security risks posed by the Chinese company.

The American Rural Wireless Association, which represents network operators with less than 100,000 subscribers, estimates that a quarter of its members have equipment from the two Chinese firms in their networks. Like Huawei, ZTE has also previously denied allegations its products are used to spy.

United Kingdom communications company BT has already said it is removing Huawei equipment from its 3G and 4G networks, and pledged not to use the firm's products in the "core" of its 5G service.
