Trump and Democrats vying for support in final midterm elections push

Trump and Democrats vying for support in final midterm elections push

Former US President Barack Obama urged voters on Friday to vote for "decent" and "honest" politics ahead of the country's midterm elections. In a post, she endorsed Andrew Gillum, the Tallahassee mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate, and encouraged voters to vote "yes" to restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated citizens.

"We just have a lot of our voters who want to vote on election day. I give everybody the benefit of the doubt", one supporter, who gave her name only as June, said.

In the home stretch of a campaign marked by a recent deadly anti-Semitic attack and the interception of parcel bombs sent to prominent Democrats including Obama, the former president called for defending 'the values that bind us to our fellow citizens, no matter who we are'.

He added that "people are going out and they're voting for something and not against".

According to Silver's FiveThirtyEight, Republicans now have a 4 in 5 chance (81%; down by over 4% in just the last few days) of maintaining control of the Senate, giving the Democrats just a 1 in 5 chance (19%) of taking over.

It's unclear why it took so long to correct the error, but the network has come under fire during the President Donald Trump presidency for moving further and further to the left.

Gillum said, "The president has made this election all about him".

"I think that myself, like other people, are not liking what we're seeing on the other side", Mancini said.

Though Nelson is the incumbent, he does not have an overwhelming lead over the soon-to-be-former governor. "But all I know, what he stands for is America, making America great again and that's what I stand for".

Democrats were fanning out across the country to help the party stoke turnout in their effort to capture seats in Congress and win several races for governor.

The Republican president and his Democratic predecessor are both lending their considerable political clout to key Senate and gubernatorial battlegrounds in Indiana, Florida and Georgia this weekend, aiming to motivate voters before Tuesday's election.

Former Rep. Ron DeSantis of Florida, Gillum's opponent, and Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, who's running against Abrams, won their primaries by latching on to Trump and all that comes with him. The Florida-based group engages in anti-Israel activism, including the promotion of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against the Jewish state.
