Michelle Obama reveals why she stopped smiling at Trump’s Inauguration

Michelle Obama reveals why she stopped smiling at Trump’s Inauguration

In her book, entitled "Becoming", former first lady Michelle Obama took a swipe at America's 45th president, writing that she stopped "even trying to smile" when Donald Trump was being sworn into office in January 2017.

Married for nearly 26 years, the Obamas represent the ideal couple.

The former first lady, 54, shared details of then-16-year-old Malia's first prom in her new book, Becoming, which is out today.

"Marriage counseling for us was one of those ways where we learned how to talk out our differences", Michelle Obama informed Roberts.

"I think, at this point, everybody's qualified and everybody should run", she said, eliciting laughter from the studio audience.

Michelle Obama still stands by her motto, "When they go low, we go high", asking, "What's the alternative?" "That gets us into a lot of trouble, when we measure people just by what I call people's stats, and not their story", she said. "It's so well-written I can hear her voice; I can hear her expressions; I can feel her emotion". And I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama, who have a phenomenal marriage and who love each other, we - we work on our marriage.

She reportedly writes that she will "never forgive" Mr Trump for feeding the racist "birther" conspiracy theory that Mr Obama was actually born in Kenya, and therefore ineligible to be president.

"His foreign policy, and this lack of civility that Trump represents - I think he sees speaking out as exceptional behaviour required by exceptional circumstances".

Before Barack Obama entered public life, Michelle was his mentor. "Told me I was angry", she said.

Michelle Obama says daughter Malia begged her and the President to "be cool" when her prom date came over to pick her up several years ago.

As the graduating seniors sat in a circle discussing the pressures of being the only minority at times and the difficulties of being the first in their families to reach for college, a cheerful Obama bounced into the room. "Wait, wait, people. This isn't who I am, '" she added.

Mitchell Obama claimed she used IVF to conceive her two daughters because age was catching up with her. "It was the first time I really experienced someone taking my voice and balling it up and distorting it".

"She told me I wasn't Princeton material", she said. The tour starts in her hometown of Chicago on November 13. "It was a question that dogged me through my first month", she writes.

"Realising it, I made my own optic adjustment".

'One is Michelle - she's such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem, not depending on boys to validate how you look or not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence'.
