Mattis to meet with troops deployed at US-Mexico border

Mattis to meet with troops deployed at US-Mexico border

A group of LGBT migrants has split off from the main caravan traveling from Central America to the United States and managed to reach a city of Tijuana, Mexico, situated near the southwestern U.S. border, Fox News reported.

"We are expecting more of these little groups, but we don't know right now exactly what we are going to do with the big caravan", he said.

Recently, Daily Star Online reported thousands in the migrant caravan had refused offers of housing and jobs in Mexico, saying they wanted only America.

Donald Trump's decision to send U.S. troops to the Mexico border came ahead of USA midterm congressional elections last week, and critics dismissed the move as a political stunt to drive Republican voters to the polls.

Some 400 migrants who broke away from the main caravan in Mexico City arrived in the border city of Tijuana on Tuesday by bus, according to a Reuters witness. He ran quickly back to the fence.

"We'll have to see what the future holds", he said. Space in shelters operated by church and civic groups in Tijuana and Mexicali is limited in the state to 1,600 spaces, he said, and some already are filled to capacity.

Migrants from a caravan that left Mexico City earlier this week and are now headed to the border crossings near Tijuana, 1,500 miles to the northwest.

From Sonora, some migrants said they had already caught buses from to Tijuana.

Rueda was interviewed by phone from Mexico City where he had been participating in a meeting called by Mexico's Interior Ministry to coordinate efforts on the caravan; other attendees included representatives of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees, Mexico's Foreign Ministry, global aid groups and city officials from Tijuana and Mexicali.

It is unclear whether the two caravans would merge or when they would set out on the road north.

The LGBTQ group of migrants says they have faced bigotry and hostility from Mexicans as they moved through their country towards the United States. Such a change would not affect the caravan if the migrants requested asylum at a port of entry.

President Donald Trump ordered troops to the border in response to a caravan of migrants slowly making its way through Mexico toward the U.S.

USA authorities closed down several lanes of traffic at two border crossings from Tijuana to California on Tuesday so that soldiers can install barbed wire fencing and barricades to reinforce security.

As with the others, the LGBT faction are hoping to get political asylum either at the San Ysidro or Otay Mesa ports of entry.

"It's ridiculous to have marines, to have barbed wire, to have tanks, Humvees, whatever we're throwing on the border guns, to greet people fleeing violence?"
