Judge Delays Decision Whether to Unseal Assange Criminal Complaint

Manafort joined the Trump campaign as convention manager on March 29, 2016, and later became campaign chairman.

As the Guardian reports, "It is unclear why Manafort would have wanted to see Assange and what was discussed". Wikileaks is denying that the meeting happened.

"Nobody's dying, nobody's being abused, nobody's being sexually assaulted", he said, calling Mueller's probe "bullshit" and his prosecutors "bozos" for putting Manafort in solitary confinement while awaiting sentencing.

Assange has been hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy since 2012, where the Ecuadorian government has granted him asylum, to evade an worldwide arrest warrant issued for a rape charge in Sweden.

"Wouldn't it be easy to prove Manafort was there?"

Brinkema said that under normal circumstances, there would be no question that the public has a right to see a complaint, but noted that right doesn't accrue until someone has been publicly charged and emphasized the "sound reasons" complaints are not unsealed earlier - highlighting the fact that before that time, a suspect could possibly destroy evidence or evade arrest.

For its part, WikiLeaks strongly denied the explosive report on Twitter and said it is "willing to bet the Guardian a million dollars and its editor's head that Manafort never met Assange".

The report comes as Manafort faces an accusation of lying to Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, who's investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

A hearing was held in Alexandria, Virginia on Tuesday on a motion to make public the sealed USA charges against Julian Assange.

Citing a "well-placed source", The Guardian reported that Manafort met with Assange around March 2016, just months before WikiLeaks released Democratic emails believed to be stolen by Russian intelligence officers. "I know there were no conversations between the president and Manafort about Assange". Conspiracy theorist and Stone pal Jerome Corsi said Monday he is rejecting a plea deal from the special counsel's office and expects to be indicted.

They blamed the denial of access on Assange's tweets about the Salisbury nerve agent attack last spring in the United Kingdom but many sources said the Ecuadorian government is trying to force Assange out of their embassy.

The revelation of the mystery case against Assange - a focus of years of investigation, according to sources - was because of a gaffe by a prosecutor working on a separate case with no connection to the WikiLeaks founder or the Russian counterintelligence case.

Law&Crime reached out to Wikileaks and Manafort's attorney Kevin Downing for comment on this alleged relationship but no response was forthcoming at the time of publication.

Manafort had agreed to cooperate with Mueller's probe after pleading guilty to financial fraud charges related to his work as an unregistered lobbyist for Ukraine - prior to his time with the Trump campaign.
