Border Patrol Spokesperson Offers a Smart Solution for Stemming the Crisis

Border Patrol Spokesperson Offers a Smart Solution for Stemming the Crisis

Mexico, for its part, has deployed riot police to maintain calm, as well as implemented measures to stop migrants walking near to the border area.

The U.S. -Mexico border was plunged into chaos over the weekend after hundreds of migrants rushed the fence near Tijuana, some hurling projectiles at agents as they ran. They were pushed back by tear gas will be deported by Mexico.

"[CBP] effectively managed an extremely risky situation involving over 1,000 individuals who sought to enter the United States unlawfully in large groups".

Forty-two people were arrested on suspicion of illegally crossing the U.S. -Mexico border after members of the migrant caravan in Tijuana marched toward the border and prompted a five-hour shutdown at the San Ysidro crossing, a Border Patrol official said Monday.

The ministry said that migrants should accept the asylum offered by Mexico, noting that it includes work, health care, education, and other benefits.

On Fox & Friends, Border Patrol Foundation president defends pepper spraying latinx migrants because "it's natural".

San Diego Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott confirmed the report in an interview on Monday, adding the majority of those arrested were adult males.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer posted a tweet Sunday night urging USA and Mexican officials to resolve the situation without closing the border.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has promised to maintain a "robust" presence along the border to block the migrants from entering the U.S. "DHS will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons", she said in a statement. "Congress, fund the WALL!". "The migrants at our southern border are human beings, including mothers and small children, who are exercising their legal, human right to seek asylum".

USA agents fired tear gas into the crowd, which included children, as a peaceful march turned into chaos. In total, more than 5,000 immigrants have been staying inside and nearby a sport complex in Tijuana, hoping to be allowed to enter the U.S.

The border rush came as thousands of migrants streamed into Tijuana in the past week, triggering a humanitarian crisis, after some analysts wrongly claimed earlier in November that the caravans would never reach the United States. Across the border, migrants can be seen running near a pedestrian bridge in Tijuana.

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his displeasure with the caravans in Mexico and to make another pitch for his promised border wall.

"These are persons that one would like to think are true refugees", Colburn said, "but they are not showing that in their actions".
