Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she's confused for intern at US Capitol

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she's confused for intern at US Capitol

WASHINGTON ― Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) insists she's still on track to be the next speaker of the House, telling reporters Thursday she has the "overwhelming" support of the Democratic caucus.

Fudge, 66, has not publicly stated whether she will run, but Pelosi welcomed the challenge.

Fudge said Thursday she was "overwhelmed" by the support colleagues offered after she announced that she was mulling a challenge to Nancy Pelosi to become House speaker in January.

Her specific argument is that Pelosi has not done enough for the Congressional Black Caucus to warrant support.

But she says people keep mistaking her for one. She didn't win it by herself", Fudge added, also saying: "If we're going to give her credit for the wins, why is she not responsible for all the losses?"

During a fundraiser in Washington D.C., liberal Democratic House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for all fossil fuel production to stop - or else civilization has 12 years left to save the planet from catastrophe.

But Pelosi's detractors are betting that Democrats will want to avoid the possible dysfunction of a knock-down, drag-'em-out speaker's race. Now she's using her youth to her advantage and giving people an intimate look at her life as a soon-to-be congresswoman through Instagram stories.

Pelosi was speaker before Republicans took House control in 2011.

Meanwhile, Fudge is out there stirring the pot, pushing for new leadership-and arguing that "racism" has seeped into the Democrat leadership under Pelosi.

"You know I've never gone to that place", she continued.

In short, there are a number of Democrats who could oppose her and already a critical number who look likely to.

"We're not feeling the love", she added.
"I think it may actually delay what the progressives are trying to achieve".

"I don't hate Nancy".

Moulton has said he would back Marcia Fudge, a former chair of the House's Congressional Black Caucus, saying Wednesday that the OH congresswoman has "the type of leadership this party needs". "I enjoy a tremendous amount of support from the women in our caucus - from the new members who are women in our caucus - and so I get the upside, I think, of being a woman".

Interested in Democratic Party?

One senior Democratic aide suggested to HuffPost that it wasn't a "tenable position for a leader in the Democratic Party to be in opposition to extending civil rights protections to the LGBTQ community", though Fudge would nearly certainly disagree with that characterization and has challenged anyone to find a vote in which she didn't stand up for LGBTQ rights. "If we open up the Civil Rights Act, it's like opening up Pandora's box".
