UN Says Canada Needs to Cut Emissions to Stop Catastrophic Climate Change

UN Says Canada Needs to Cut Emissions to Stop Catastrophic Climate Change

The findings of this new report are terrifying, to say the least, and if we do not act quickly to try and reverse some of the effects of climate change we could very well all be staring in the reality of a disaster movie.

Global warming will also affect human health.

Billed in the media as "life changing", the report illustrates how crossing the ever-nearer threshold of 1.5C warming will affect the planet, and how hard it will be to avoid overshooting this target. "It was given to me", Trump said of the report. For instance, by 2100, the global sea level rise would be 10cm lower with global warming of 1.5ºC compared with 2ºC.

Environment Minister Melissa Price seemed just as unconcerned as McCormack, saying that "it would be "irresponsible" to commit to phase out coal by 2050 because clean coal technology could be available by then", the Guardian reported. "There is no USA leadership, and the phrase "international community" is more rhetoric than reality".

The country had already ratified the landmark Paris Agreement 2015 and approved its own action plan to implement the agreement as well as update the Nationally Determined Contributions on greenhouse reduction goals to submit to the United Nations before the Climate Change Conference 25 next year.

The best way to combat climate change, as with all environmental challenges, is through more technological advancements that will find ways to stabilize the earth's temperature.

But as Jamie Henn, co-founder and the program director for the worldwide climate group 350.org, stated in a tweet on Tuesday, the "scariest thing about the IPCC Report" is the fact that "it's the watered down, consensus version".

Numerous students interviewed had not heard about the UN's report but did believe that the world's temperature was rising, and they accept there will be consequences unless preventive actions are taken.

"This report establishes that half a degree matters; that there is a difference between 1.5 and two degrees - the higher goal which much of the world thinks should be the target", added the physicist, who is also one of the coordinating lead authors for the 1.5 report.

As President, Trump has been unwilling to take steps to curb climate change that he feels would damage industry.

As for hurricanes, "We know that climate change is melting land ice, which is causing sea levels to rise".

The landmark Paris Agreement adopted in December 2015 by 195 nations at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), included the aim of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change by "holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels". We've seen increases in precipitation over the last 50 years.

Udall criticized the Trump administration's recent rollback of a rule meant to reduce pollution from methane, a greenhouse gas, calling it a "tragic failure of leadership". "Việt Nam hopes that all countries, especially developed ones, and other organisations fully take their due responsibility", Dũng said.

The report comes about after the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change invited the group of climate experts to write the report. Miami will be particularly affected by sea-level rise; a study published past year in the journal Nature concluded that rising seas as a result of climate change could cause more than 2.5 million Miami residents to flee the city.

For Gutzler, who is among the scientists working on the next IPCC assessment, the main message New Mexicans should glean from the special report and others like it is that climate change isn't coming - it's already here.
