Turkish newspaper names 15 Saudis in case of missing reporter

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then had a follow-up call with the crown prince to reiterate the USA request for information and a thorough, transparent investigation.

A pro-government Turkish daily on Wednesday published preliminary evidence from investigators it said identified a 15-member Saudi intelligence team involved in the unexplained disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Saudi officials have denied any involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance and alleged murder, saying he left the consulate on October 2.

Hayes offered no evidence to support his wild conspiracy theory, which came in response to the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, "a well-known and well-connected Saudi journalist, self-exiled in the United States, who had for months sounded the alarm over increasingly autocratic moves by the crown prince", the Los Angeles Times reported.

On Wednesday, Turkish security officials concluded that the "highest levels of the royal court" in Saudi Arabia ordered the assassination of Khashoggi, according to a senior official cited by The New York Times.

Khashoggi, a United States resident for about the past year, has written articles critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Khashoggi vanished after entering the consulate to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage. "And we're going to get to the bottom of it", Trump said. "And you know what, there are other ways of punishing", he said. "We can not let this happen, to reporters, to anyone".

Saudi Arabia asserts the allegations are "baseless".

Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Riyadh and a U.S. resident, disappeared on October 2 after visiting the Saudi consulate. US intelligence intercepted communications of Saudi officials discussing a plan to capture Khashoggi before he vanished, according to the Post, which cited two people familiar with the information.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump told reporters in the Oval Office he has a call in to Khashoggi's fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, who has appealed to the president and first lady Melania Trump for help.

The newspaper said Khashoggi turned on the recording function of his smartwatch before walking into the consulate on October 2. The men checked into hotels and left Turkey later that night. The Sabah newspaper, which is close to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, published names and pictures of the Saudi nationals, apparently taken at a passport control station.

He says he's spoken with the Saudis about what he called a "bad situation", but he did not disclose details of his conversations.

The US, where Khashoggi lived and worked in recent years, is also keen on solving his disappearance.

Trump said Monday that he was "concerned" about reports of Khashoggi's disappearance.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said USA officials have raised the matter with their Saudi counterparts.

"It has been a heavy burden to have to stop or even cancel everything we had started", she said.

The video then cuts away to traffic outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul's upscale 4th Levent neighborhood, showing vehicles with green diplomatic license plates.

Turkey's foreign minister, Mevut Cavusoglu, said Saudi Arabia was not yet co-operating with the investigation - despite a statement from Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz saying they wanted to uncover "the whole truth".
