Megyn Kelly in NBC limbo after cancellation of morning show

Megyn Kelly in NBC limbo after cancellation of morning show

The "Today" show's 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other co-anchors come Monday, a spokesperson told Page Six, ending Kelly's run of just over a year at the show. This was all before Kelly said on Tuesday that dressing in black face was "ok" when she was a kid.

The network on Friday again aired a repeat of "Megyn Kelly Today" just as it did Thursday following this week's controversy.

Ms Kelly, 47, made her debut as a NBC morning host in September 2017, taking over the 9am slot at Today and saying she wanted viewers "to have a laugh with us, a smile, sometimes a tear and maybe a little hope to start your day".

Ms Kelly is in the second year of a three-year contract that reportedly pays her more than NZ$30 million a year. Next week, the 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other "Today' co-anchors".

Kelly has had no comment since Wednesday, when she appeared live on her show and apologized for the remarks.

"While she apologised to the staff, she owes a bigger apology to folks of colour around the country", said veteran NBC weatherman Al Roker, who is black. The new role would involve her in hard news stories rather than morning show fare.

"I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry", Kelly wrote in the email to her colleagues.

It's unclear if Kelly will leave the network as well, as previous reports have indicated is likely.

Kelly's newly-hired attorney Bryan Freedman reacted to Friday's NBC announcement with a statement of his own.

Her exit from NBC News is not official yet.

"Listen, I have blackface 24/7 so it is never an issue for me". Rather than air new hours of her show the rest of the week, NBC instead broadcast pre-recorded shows on October 25 and 26. "There's the question of the faith and confidence of the public in the reporting of NBC on matters involving itself", she stated at the time.

"Megyn Kelly Today is not returning".
