Khashoggi’s friends hold vigil outside Saudi consulate in Istanbul

Khashoggi’s friends hold vigil outside Saudi consulate in Istanbul

After first insisting Khashoggi left the consulate unharmed, Saudi authorities said he was killed in an argument that degenerated into a brawl.

Riyadh had initially denied that Saudi officials had any knowledge of what had happened to the 59-year-old dissident journalist, saying he had left the consulate after picking up papers for his forthcoming marriage. File picture: Saudi Press Agency via AP.

Saudi Arabia's top prosecutor said Thursday that Jamal Khashoggi was killed in a "premeditated" act.

The seemingly clumsy cover-up of the killing was revealed to the world by Turkish leaks of information, security camera footage and, eventually, Saudi acknowledgements that Khashoggi died in the consulate.

The arrests were accompanied by an announcement that King Salman was placing his son, Mohammed, in charge of restructuring the Saudi intelligence apparatus - a move that all but ended speculation that the crown prince would be sanctioned.

"We have maintained since the beginning that the Khashoggi murder was premeditated", a senior Turkish official told The Washington Post shortly after the Saudi announcement on Thursday.

As the investigation into Khashoggi's alleged murder has developed, the US government has taken some action.

The photos of him meeting with the king and the crown prince were released by the Saudi government in an apparent effort to showcase their sympathy.

He said the investigation should bring all those responsible to justice, "no matter where it reaches".

Another source said the Turkish were very helpful in persuading the Kingdom to allow Salah Khashoggi and his family to leave the country, and the State Department helped with visas. Similar to other US -based companies who plan to continue operations in Saudi Arabia, the Company has made a decision to uphold its contractual obligations to the General Sports Authority and stage the event. He had been planning to settle in Istanbul and marry his Turkish fiancee when he was detained and killed in the Saudi Consulate. One, his hands painted red, wore a mask depicting the face of Prince Mohammed. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday in an address to parliament that the murder was "savage" and pre-planned.

"Crown Jewel", which will now officially take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is set to stream live on WWE Network Friday, Nov. 2 starting at noon ET.

Two days prior, he met with Prince Mohammed, the man who may have ordered his father's murder, and was seen in photographs appearing sullen and pained.
