ISIS took 700 hostages, including US citizens, in Syria: Putin

ISIS took 700 hostages, including US citizens, in Syria: Putin

The Trump administration is preparing to tell Russian leaders next week that it is planning to exit the landmark Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, in part to enable the United States to counter a Chinese arms build-up in the Pacific, according to USA officials and foreign diplomats. "They have been violating it for many years", Trump said after a rally in Elko, Nevada.

President Trump added that after terminating the agreement, the United States would "develop the weapons", unless Russian Federation and China agree to a new deal.

"We're going to terminate the treaty and we're going to pull out", he added. China is not now party to the pact.

The Russians and Chinese have suggested it might be time to ease up on sanctions, but that is not the USA view and "we will not relent", said a senior administration official.

On Saturday (local time) National Security Adviser John Bolton was heading to Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.

However, officials in Washington have questioned whether Putin actually has any capabilities beyond those already known to the United States military.

Critics of Trump have accused him of being soft on Russian Federation, and both Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress are pushing for more sanctions on Moscow.

Speaking to reporters at the close of a NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels, he said the US was reviewing its diplomatic and military options because of Russia's continued breaches of the 1987 treaty.

In the past, the Obama administration worked to convince Moscow to respect the INF treaty but made little progress.

"When asked what that meant practically, he said" "We'll have to develop those weapons".

The U.S. president also said he is not satisfied with Saudi Arabia's explanation for the circumstances around the killing of journalist and government critic Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul. Unlike many other news organizations, we have not put up a paywall.
