Google Pixel 3 XL teardown reveals Samsung screen, tons of glue

Google Pixel 3 XL teardown reveals Samsung screen, tons of glue

The teardown experts over at iFixit have ripped open the Google Pixel 3 XL revealing a bunch of new additions to Google's latest flagship smartphone.

Another interesting detail is that Google has been using a lot of glue in the Pixel 3 XL, which probably makes it more waterproof - the phone is rated at IP68, which is top of the class right now. Instead, Verizon says that its smartphones have to be first activated on its network before they can be unlocked for use on other carriers. The customers can pre-order the Google Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL starting today.

That's not necessarily a bad deal if you can activate the new Pixel phone on Verizon first.

Once again, there's plenty of adhesive, which is still repair-friendly and you'd need only a T3 Torx screwdriver for the whole process.

The Pixel 3 XL as dismantled by iFixit. The company said that it has initiated this new policy to help reduce theft at its retail stores. For example, this could simply be a policy change created to circumvent the current situation Verizon's now finds itself in. Aspects which when all combined is likely why Verizon has now seemed to have changed its stance on the matter - at least for the time being.

The Pixel 3 XL is nearly available in Canada.

This causing early Pixel 3 buyers, especially those from Best Buy, some frustration.

In a statement released to The Verge, a Verizon representative stated, "At launch, there was an update related to an automatic overnight unlock on Pixel 3s, which also showed up on phones sold in Best Buy stores".
