David Luiz: 'Chelsea's spirit against Manchester United was amazing'

The final whistle was marked by ugly scenes around the Stamford Bridge tunnel after one of Sarri's assistants, Marco Ianni, riled United boss Jose Mourinho by celebrating Barkley's equaliser in front of the visiting dugout.

David Luiz says Chelsea were the only team attempting to play during the first half of their Premier League draw with Manchester United.

"I did not get respect back from Chelsea (fans) but that is not my responsibility". We controlled their triggers - [Eden] Hazard was controlled and I've never seen Jorginho play so little like he did today, so we were completely in control.

"If they focus on the performance [against Chelsea] they will be really happy with themselves", said Mourinho. "And after that, his assistant comes to me in Sarri's office and apologizes to me".

"We could have done better by scoring the second goal to kill the game, but it is never easy to win in the Premier League, especially against a big opponent".

And after accepting Ianni's postmatch apology, Mourinho admitted that he could not bear a grudge against the 36-year-old considering his own actions in the past.

The explosive touchline row which saw Jose Mourinho have to be restrained at Stamford Bridge yesterday could have happened moments earlier.

Whether he enjoys it or not, Mourinho is the guy who is always portrayed as the villain of the piece, but there was so much more to this game than the incident with Ianni and his reaction to the fans who once idolised him. I understood that we were in the wrong side of the situation. "I spoke immediately with the member of my staff and I told him to speak with Mourinho and say sorry".

"If I speak to a member of staff and am very hard [with him] I can not come here and tell everything because then I am not credible with the staff".

"The three attacking players work a lot - Mata, [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford".

José Mourinho did not take kindly to Chelsea's celebrations.

The midfielder, 24, may be handed more game time by Sarri on Thursday when Chelsea take on BATE Borisov in the Europa League, offering him another chance to impress.

"[It was] different because against Newcastle, in the first half we weren't there". The veteran has played all over the pitch for the club and has seen a number of talented players come and go. If you say before the match one point at Stamford Bridge, it's always a good result because it's so hard for teams to win here.
