Houston Rockets, Suns declares Anderson trade

Houston Rockets, Suns declares Anderson trade

The deal, first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday night, was made official on Friday afternoon.

Melton, a shooting guard, was the 46th pick in the June draft out of USC.

For his career, Knight has averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 382 games.

Who is going to play point guard on this team next season? In the 72 games he played with the Suns last season, Chriss averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks on 42.3 percent shooting from the field, and 29.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Chriss was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2016 National Basketball Association draft but hasn't come close to fulfilling his potential.

The Rockets have sought to trade Anderson since last offseason.

Knight, initially acquired in February 2015 for a Lakers first-round pick that eventually turned into Suns 2018 draft pick Mikal Bridges, was expected to play a large role in the Suns backcourt. Knight should be able to serve as a capable backup to Chris Paul and James Harden at point guard if he remains healthy, and Chriss could thrive in a limited role as an athletic finisher in the pick-and-roll and a switchable big man when Clint Capela heads to the bench.

To clear the way for a trade out of Houston, Anderson agreed to reduce the guarantee on his $21 million salary in 2019-20 to $15.6 million, league sources told ESPN.

Knight missed all of last season due to a torn ACL.

He signed a four-year, $80 million deal to play for the Rockets in 2016. If they don't exercise Chriss' team option before the October 31 deadline, they'll save up to $5.6 million in 2019 with the difference between Anderson and Knight's contracts.

This trade also leaves the Suns with a gap at point guard, and unless they plan on experimenting with Booker as the lead playmaker, there could be another trade or signing coming soon.
