San Antonio Aquarium recovers shark stolen in baby stroller

San Antonio Aquarium recovers shark stolen in baby stroller

Video footage of the freakish theft fed intense public curiosity - and led to solid tips from the public on the animal's likely whereabouts.

The shark was found at the suspect's house Monday night and was brought back to the aquarium safe.

"Ms Helen (our horn shark) is in quarantine right now resting".

Salvaggio added: "But it turns out someone actually went inside the aquarium there in Leon Valley and stole a horn shark".

The man, according to police, allowed them to enter his home and pointed them to where the shark was being kept.

Thieves working as a team carried out their wet work in plain view of the public and surveillance cameras on Saturday.

"He had had one of these in the past", Salvaggio said. Then they put the bucket in a baby stroller and rolled it away from the scene of the crime on Saturday afternoon, according to Salvaggio.

Surveillance video showed three suspects scoping the aquarium out, and minutes later, a man stuck his hand inside a tank, pulled the shark out, and walked to the back. An employee noticed the suspects' stroller was leaking water when they walked away from the tank and followed them to their vehicle. Police were also called. The person is now facing fines of $750 to $2,500.

Video footage at San Antonio Aquarium in Texas then captured the individuals wheeling a child's buggy outside to a auto park. The shark has since been recovered. "The suspects staked out the pool for more than an hour to wait for this opportunity".

Fast-acting staff, realizing what had happened, were able to prevent the bleach from doing more damage.

When police confronted the 38-year-old man - who was identified Tuesday as Anthony Shannon - he admitted to his part in the shark heist, KSAT reported, and led investigators to his personal aquarium, where Ms. Helen was found unharmed. "I think the animal had died sometime in the past. He had had one of these in the past. obviously he likes those types of animals". "He had a lot of different marine animals in the home".

According to Leon Valley police, two men and one woman were seen in the San Antonio Aquarium standing near a large saltwater tank. Salvaggio said that he doesn't think the man tried to sell the shark, but wanted to keep it as a pet because he had a variety of other sea creatures in his garage.

A possible shark theft suspect posted on Facebook selling the horn shark for $300: "Selling a horn shark, ideal for the next shark week".

Then Monday, the aquarium released video footage of the shark stealing operation.

"We do still have to watch her because some stress reactions can be delayed", she said. Stellman said she and Jamie Shank, the aquarium's assistant director of husbandry, were present for the rescue.
