5 players Manchester United should scarcely use this season

Yet Herrera insisted Mourinho's combative approach is what the players need and described his battle to sign more players this summer as a normal one between a manager and his employers.

Why? Well, because pre-season has been a bit of a nightmare for the Manchester United boss so far.

"I am confident I get one, but I think two I am not going to get which is not a drama". So, I think we have fantastic players, but of course, always the managers want to improve their teams, but it's not my business.

Shortly after, a video was published on social media to reflect the players' mood and further anger the fans, during a one-touch training drill, showing those who took part hardly making any effort to perform the exercise.

United have been linked with defenders Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina as well as Chelsea star Willian.

"We basically have the same players".

Mourinho is at loggerheads with United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over potential new signings, his team have looked desperately poor in their first four pre-season friendlies, and latest reports claim the Red Devils' squad feel uncomfortable in his presence right now.

Mourinho has had to contend with post-World Cup holidays, a lengthening injury list and difficulties in the transfer market while on the five-game trip in the United States. It's not going to be very different.

But now he says one addition seems more probable before the window closes on August 9.

"The players that we have bought one is a goalkeeper cover, another one is a 19-year-old kid".

Mourinho - who having guided United to Europa League and League Cup success in his first season - delivered nothing last term. "I'm not a big fan of one player starting the season with one club and then a couple of weeks later the window is open, he moves to another club and he plays against his former club - I really don't like that".

"The players that will be in Premier League squad, it will be a chance to play a hard match and it's good for preparation".

"I agree totally with the window closing at the same time the Premier League starts".

"When they have the feeling they can win the World Cup, they close each other".
