US President Donald Trump arrives in United Kingdom for four-day visit

LONDON ― President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump touch down in London on Thursday for a working visit, and while his meeting schedule will keep him nearly exclusively outside of the capital, she will be spending some time in town.

On Friday, Trump will bypass the mass protests in London as he heads to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst with May for a military display, before talks at her country residence, Chequers. Trump was largely steering clear of London, where protests are planned and where organizers had permission to fly a blimp over Parliament portraying the president as an orange crying baby.

Following the gala event at the 18th century country house, Trump and his wife will come to central London to spend a night at US Ambassador Woody Johnson's official London residence, Winfield House, in Regent's Park.

Prime Minister May has abundant reasons to seek a close relationship with Trump - not least, the United States will be an even more vital trade partner once Britain leaves the European Union next year - but it is an uneasy embrace, given her opposition to many of his key policies.

Gardner, who works with refugees as part of her doctoral research at the London School of Economics, said Trump's speeches about refugees and immigrants are "a very unsafe line of rhetoric to be normalized".

The poll conducted this week said 63 percent found Trump racist, and 74 percent said he was sexist.

Trump had infamously dubbed the new site as a "lousy location" when he made a decision to cancel a planned visit for its official opening earlier this year.

Opponents to the controversial United States leader have threatened mass protests but Mr Trump is expected to avoid areas such as central London where demonstrators are likely to gather.

There are fears that demonstrations during Trump's three-day visit to the United Kingdom from Thursday could turn violent.

"Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent", the embassy said in a list of advised actions, asking Americans to "keep a low profile" and "be aware of your surroundings". I think they agree with me on immigration.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the author of "Trump's America", said parallels can be drawn between Churchill's years in the wilderness during the 1930s and Trump's emergence in Republican politics from outside the establishment. "It's really kind of irrelevant to what we're trying to do, and doesn't express the opinion of the British people that I've met", he told the BBC's Today programme.

Britain "is in somewhat turmoil", Trump said before departing Washington, remarking that dealing with Putin might surprisingly be the easiest part of the European trip.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss Russia, Brexit and Middle East.

Later, Trump will take tea with Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, a home to the royals for 1,000 years, part of a tour created to keep him away from protesters.
