Guardiola: Man City’s Pre-Season Not Easy Without Key Players

Guardiola: Man City’s Pre-Season Not Easy Without Key Players

Mohamed Salah wasted no time in returning to goalscoring form as Liverpool came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in New Jersey.

The Reds arrived at the MetLife Stadium for the second game of their USA tour boosted by the availability of Salah, Mane, Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sadio Mane later scored a penalty in stoppage time to give Liverpool the win.

"I have a lot of friends at Bayern", he said.

"I know that people want to hear that I tell you we can win this or that, but I have no clue if we will win something".

The arrival of club-record signing Riyad Mahrez adds extra competition to Guardiola's attacking options and even if he was exceptional last season, Sane can not afford to rest on his laurels.

The Spain global has been an integral part of City's success, scoring 61 goals and providing 115 assists in 346 appearances to help the club win three league titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups since his arrival 2010.

Guardiola has also said he was unfazed and unsurprised by the lavish spending of City's rivals. I'm happy they've had success.

The Spaniard was allowed time off to be with his family at that troubling time and he has now opened up about the experience and about the difficulty in focusing on football.

"It's incredible what we have done", he said.

Bernardo Silva came off the bench to replace Mahrez and the Portugal worldwide starred with a brace as Premier League champions City overturned a 2-0 deficit. "It is what it is; I learned that when I was a little boy in Barcelona, you don't find excuses, you just play", Guardiola added when asked about City's preparations with their regular starters.

"A lot of the players went really far in the World Cup".

"We are going to adapt, simple as that".

The Egypt forward's World Cup was hampered by a shoulder injury suffered in Liverpool's Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in May.

This upcoming Premier League season has all the makings of being an absolute classic, and City will have to be at their very best, if they are to retain their title. His stats for goal involvement over the last three seasons put him among the league's most consistently effective offensive players.

"We don't think about that, we just try to make the best of it".
