Trump says Michael Cohen is not his lawyer

Trump says Michael Cohen is not his lawyer

Through White House officials, Trump has denied the affair, although Cohen has admitted paying Daniels $130,000 as part of the agreement. He also said, "I always liked Michael". A person familiar with the review process said Cohen's lawyer will meet the deadline.

It's the latest in the drip, drip, drip of bad news for Cohen, Trump's one-time consiglieri, who according to CNN and other news reports, is considering a plea deal to avoid prosecution in the case.

Avenatti's "publicity tour", the filing said, is "likely to result in Mr. Cohen being deprived of his right to a fair trial".

In addition to the shredded papers and phone messages, prosecutors said they recovered 315 megabytes from a BlackBerry found in the search.

Prosecutors provided the update on material seized from Cohen's law office and residences during an April 9 raid in a letter Friday to Manhattan Federal Court Judge Kimba Wood. In April, Cohen and his lawyers successfully argued for the appointment of a special master, allowing them, Trump's attorneys, and the Trump Organization to identify documents protected by attorney-client privilege that could not be used in a potential prosecution. "You have to understand, this stuff would've come out a long time ago".

The FBI also was able to obtain more than 700 pages of Cohen's encrypted messages and call logs.

Cohen's attorney, Stephen Ryan, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. His lawyers are asking a California court to bar Avenatti from talking to the press and or public about Stormy Daniels case.

Cohen had sought to delay the legal fight after his home and office were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in April. Daniels - whose real name is Stephanie Clifford - is suing Trump and Cohen, as well as the shell company Essential Consultants, seeking to nullify a 2016 non-disclosure agreement that attempted to prevent her from speaking out about her alleged affair with Trump.

Otero's order did not address the merits of whether a restraining order should be granted.

"Mr. Avenatti either needs to respect and observe the Code of Professional Conduct [for lawyers] or remove himself from this case", Cohen's lawyer Brent Blakely said in an email. He gave Avenatti until June 25 to formally respond to Cohen, who can reply by July 2.

A separate hearing in Daniels' case is scheduled for June 21.
