San Antonio Spurs: Kawhi Leonard still ‘irate’ with Tony Parker’s comments

San Antonio Spurs: Kawhi Leonard still ‘irate’ with Tony Parker’s comments

There was a star wing who was disgruntled with his current situation, looking for greener pastures before his contract expires in 2018, actively searching for a trade with a preferred destination of the Los Angeles Lakers.

With a lot of young players already on the team, making three selections in the draft this year does seem a little unlikely. However, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN, it makes more sense for the Celtics to use Irving or Hayward as the "centerpiece" of any trade involving Leonard to maintain the present-future balance of the team.

Clearly they'd rather not move on from inarguably one of the top five or so players in the National Basketball Association, and their current stance is completely reflective of that belief. OKC will reportedly offer him a maximum contract to entice him to run it back with Westbrook, but the Lakers are right in the mix given his ties to southern California and previous quotes about a desire to play in L.A.

Beyond the big names at the top, this is an incredibly deep free-agent class.

If it's the Lakers that take Leonard, will they wait until 2019 or sacrifice assets now to ensure everything goes their way?

Though the Spurs reportedly wouldn't be motivated to trade Leonard to the Lakers, Leonard's demands and intentions may make it hard for the Spurs.

This much we know: Kawhi Leonard's relationship with San Antonio soured this year, and he has made it clear he wants out of the Spurs organization.

According to reports, he's upset with the team over their handling of the leg injury that forced him to miss nearly the entirety of the 2017-2018 National Basketball Association season, as well as public comments made by guard Tony Parker and head coach Gregg Popovich. Popovich even suggested that Leonard might be better than LeBron James a year ago.

It's a huge conundrum for the Spurs, as they could get a huge package for him this summer, but trading one of the league's best players is never a good look to a fanbase.
