NBA Free Agency Rumors: Kawhi And LeBron Had A Chat

NBA Free Agency Rumors: Kawhi And LeBron Had A Chat

The Lakers clearly believe, if they trade for Kawhi Leonard, they can parlay that into signing LeBron James.

George opted out of his contract with Oklahoma City on Thursday and James has until Friday to decide if he'll stay with the Cavaliers.

"If LeBron comes alone, it's the Lakers plus LeBron, plus cap space, plus good young players - someone else is going to come, it's just a matter of time", said Lowe. Once again, it leaves the Lakers looking pretty favorable to land at least two stars this summer. He reportedly had a tense relationship with the team throughout his rehab process. If the Lakers balk at the Spurs' price for Leonard, perhaps the Spurs deal Leonard elsewhere. The Lakers could have to surrender a combination of former first-round picks - from Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart - and future first-round picks and perhaps restricted free agent Julius Randle in a sign-and-trade agreement.

According to a former National Basketball Association team executive, the Los Angeles Lakers might be among the top candidates in the Cousins sweepstakes, though that would also mean choosing only one of the three players most frequently mentioned as potential new additions to the team - LeBron James, Paul George, or Kawhi Leonard.

One possible team interested in this type of trade includes the Denver Nuggets.

Can you really blame the Spurs if this is the case?

But if this latest report is even close to true, it's not hard to see why Celtics president Danny Ainge has an extremely limited interest in negotiating with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich and general manager R.C. Buford. The team has Dejounte Murray and signed Patty Mills to a new four-year deal in 2017 that runs through 2020-21. Per a mid-June report, Kawhi has asked for a trade and made it clear he wants to end up playing for the Lakers.

But before Sixers fans start dreaming, this is a long way from happening and the franchise would have to make an offer first.
