DeChambeau wins Memorial in playoff on 2nd extra hole

DeChambeau wins Memorial in playoff on 2nd extra hole

Bryson DeChambeau finished off a 6-under-par 66 with birdies on two of the toughest holes, giving him a one-shot lead going into a final round at a Memorial that features Tiger Woods in the mix at Muirfield Village for the first time in six years. For the week, Woods had five three-putt greens and missed seven putts inside 5 feet. The playoff, which lasted two holes, also included Kyle Stanley and Byeong Hun An.

Tiger Woods has put in a superb second round display at The Memorial in OH after reaching five under before play was stopped because of the threat of lightning.

Stanley failed to scramble his par after DeChambeau left his tentative first putt eight feet short, and his putt for victory veered across the front of the hole and missed on the low side.

Cantlay made two eagles, including a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth.

Scott, who needs to vault from No. 65 on the world rankings to be inside the top 60 by the June 11 cut-off point, climbed to a tie for 11 in the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in OH today with a third-round 70.

An eagle from 95 yards at the par-five 11th then moved the fist-pumping Woods to five-under.

"I can't believe I did it", DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau failed to take advantage, however, three-putting from 55 feet to fall into the three-way playoff.

DeChambeau, who earned his second PGA Tour victory, led by one shot entering the final round.

Woods is a five-time victor at the Memorial, the last one in 2012. Notes: Tiger Woods, a five-time Memorial victor, is playing for the first time since 2015.

"I hit a lot of good putts today, I just didn't do that at the end".

If you're a Tiger fan, the exciting news heading into the U.S. Open in two weeks is that this is as good as he's looked all year - and probably in the last half decade - from a swing standpoint. What if, by the time the putter cooperates, the short-range makes are for bogeys instead of birdies?

Along with making his second ace of the season, Cantlay blistered a 4-iron as far as he could hit it on the par-5 15th, the ball landing just short of the green and stopping 4 feet away.

Rose fired a closing 70 to finish three shots off the pace on 12 under, one ahead of the two players above him in the world rankings as Thomas (68) and Dustin Johnson (67) both enjoyed positive finishes.

DeChambeau had struggled to make much happen over the front nine as he missed a number of fairways, although he scrambled hard to keep a bogey off his card while picking up a welcome birdie at the fifth.
