Arsenal to hold talks with Fellaini this week

Arsenal to sign Marouane Fellaini for free?

So if Fellaini does join the Gunners, how would he fit in? While United want to sign him to a new contract―manager Jose Mourinho is a fan of the Belgian―the former Everton man has chose to keep his options open as he wants to be a regular starter.

Arsenal have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer.

Foot 365 and RFI Radio Foot journalist Patrick Juliard (h/t The Express) claims that the former Everton man will meet the Gunners representatives this week.

Chosen by Roberto Martinez in the Belgian World Cup this summer, Fellaini is apparently seeking a £120,000 a week contract at Arsenal, plus a significant signing-on fee.

Fellaini has been selected in Belgium's World Cup squad and the Red Devils had hoped he would sign his extension before he travelled to Russian Federation for the World Cup.

The 30 year old Belgian has proven to be a useful player to have amongst the ranks, but the Brazilian Fred's arrival at Old Trafford will mean he's pushed further down the pecking order or surplus to requirements.

Fellaini is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of the month and has been allowed to negotiate with other English clubs since Friday.

According to Times reporter Paul Hirst, Arsenal's newly appointed boss, Unai Emery, has already spoken to Fellaini and is keen on wrapping up a deal. So it makes sense that they are going after free agents with Stephan Lichtsteiner also linked.
