Spike Lee Slams Donald Trump For Not Denouncing The Klan

Spike Lee has heavily criticised Donald Trump for his response to the violent events that took place at the white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Virginia past year, which the director described as a "blemish on America". Many are praising the how Lee and his cast - which includes Star Wars' Adam Driver, Spider-Man: Homecoming actress Laura Harrier, and That 70s Show's Topher Grace as a bumbling young version of former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke - pull no punches and for how timely this movie feels in the light of the racial violence and the rise of "Alt-right" in Donald Trump's America.

Following the tragic event, President Trump refused to denounce the white nationalists, stating that there were "some very fine people" on both sides. "He could have said to the world, not [just] the United States, that we're better than that".

BlacKkKlansman received a massive ten-minute long standing ovation after its premiere at Cannes last night, and social media was abuzz with adulations for Lee from those who got to see it.

"BlacKkKlansman", based on the true story of Ron Stallworth, a black police officer who infiltrated the Colorado Springs chapter of the KKK, stars John David Washington, son of Denzel, and Adam Driver who plays the white officer who helps him pull off the subterfuge.

The sequence wraps up with a dedication to Heather Heyer, the woman who was killed when one of the white supremacist marchers, James Fields, Jr., plowed his auto into a crowd.

"We have to wake up".

"I go to bed every night thinking about it", Lee said, looking genuinely anxious. "It's not a black, white, or brown [problem], it's everybody".

Talking about the death of Heyer, Lee called it, "It's an ugly, ugly, ugly blemish on the United States of America". It's everybody. We all live on this planet, and this guy in the White House has the nuclear code.

The first official trailer has been released for the new film from visionary filmmaker Spike Lee.

"Mrs. Bro said, 'Spike, I give you permission to put that in'".

Lee said: "Ron Stallworth thinks that it's a goof so he calls up and, thinking it's a joke, leaves his real name and phone number on a voicemail - and the Klan calls back".

"That's what this film is about and I know in my heart, I don't care what the critics say or anybody else, we are on the right side of history with this film".
