Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Joked About His 2.0 GPA, Old Classmate Says

Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Joked About His 2.0 GPA, Old Classmate Says

President Donald Trump spoke to Michael Cohen over the phone on Friday, a source with knowledge of the matter confirmed to CNN.

Michael Cohen, Trump's personal attorney, takes a call near the Loews Regency hotel on Park Ave on Friday in New York City.

The Times reported that it was unclear what Trump and Cohen discussed during their call but noted it "could be problematic for both men, as lawyers often advise their clients not to talk to each other during investigations".

Todd Harrison, an attorney for Cohen, urged the judge to issue a temporary restraining order to let either Cohen's lawyers or a court-appointed special master review the materials seized by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. The US attorney in NY asserted in response that the raids had been authorized by a federal judge to seek evidence of conduct "for which Cohen is under criminal investigation".

Attorneys separately representing President Donald Trump and his longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, argued Friday that the Justice Department should be blocked from reviewing communications between Trump and Cohen.

Cohen's explanation for a $130,000 hush payment he made just before the 2016 election to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress who claims to have had an affair with Trump, is that he made the payment by himself, without informing Trump and using exclusively his own personal funds.

They were there to argue that they should get to review the documents seized from Cohen's office, apartment and hotel room this week before federal prosecutors do so.

Elliott Broidy, who helped raise millions of dollars for Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, stepped down from his position as deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee, the RNC said.

The government's motion also reveals that prosecutors examined a safe-deposit box used by Cohen, carrying out the searches in part because they feared evidence might be destroyed if they had simply served him with a subpoena.

When your boss is the POTUS, that too Trump, it is hardly surprising that Cohen cared little about the law and order.

"Mr. Trump, Mr. Cohen and their teams were still scrambling on Friday to assess the damage from the raid early Monday morning", The Times. Cohen frequently taped conversations with adversaries and opposing lawyers, according to the two people briefed. Her client, the president, "as the privilege-holder, has an acute interest in this issue", she said.

The Cohen episode has clearly rattled the president, even beyond his usual fragile mental state. McClatchy reported that Mueller had obtained evidence of Cohen traveling to Prague in 2016 - a trip he had vigorously, if unconvincingly, denied making.

Judge Kimba Wood said Cohen's team will need to turn over by Monday a full list of Cohen's legal clients and the attorneys he's retained in various legal matters, as well as evidence proving that the parties were engaged in an attorney-client relationship. Daniels opposes the request; her response to Friday evening's request is due by 6 p.m. PT Monday. The team's primary responsibility is to separate materials that are protected by attorney-client privilege to avoid later claims that the government improperly accessed the documents, according to the New York Law Journal.
