Snapchat Gets Group Video Chat

Snapchat Gets Group Video Chat

As part of an app update, Snapchat had introduced video and voice chat in 2016 for user convenience. "Now you can video chat with up to 16 of your friends at one time", Snapchat said on its website. You simply enter an existing Group Chat, or create a new one with the friends and family you want to talk to, and tap the video icon to start a Group Video Chat, or the phone icon to start an audio call. In the latest update, Snapchat's adding group video calls and the ability to tag friends in your stories. Every member of the group will receive a notification saying they've been invited to a call, and when they accept the invite, their name bubble will light up, telling you they've joined the call. Mentions are the company's way of elevating Snapchat's interactive capabilities, while group video calls pose a direct competition to Houseparty and Bonfire. And there is great news for those who like general tomfoolery; Lenses are available to use during a group video chat.

To start a video chat, tap the video icon in a group chat in the app. Find your friends in the search bar and select "Chat" to start the group conversation. The feature starts rolling out this week, so you may not have it right away. Friends that view your story will also be able to add a tagged person as a friend or view any public stories that they have posted.

Your mates will be notified in Chat if you tag them in a Story.

Mentions in Snapchat work just like they do in other applications. We'll let you know when this feature inevitably makes its way into Instagram as well, so stay tuned. It will also match a feature in Facebook's Messenger app. What do you think of these new features?

Share Snapchat Stories with anyone: Users can now share Snapchat stories with anyone, regardless of whether they have the app. This should make it a (ahem) snap to tag the right person.
