Injury Update For Chicago White Sox Pitcher Danny Farquhar

Injury Update For Chicago White Sox Pitcher Danny Farquhar

As you no doubt heard, White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar was rushed to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage on Friday. Farquhar remains in critical, but stable condition in the ICU unit at Rush University Medical Center.

"It's certainly a heavy heart type of day when one of your teammates is dealing with that, and certainly as a baseball family we all understand it", Hinch said.

Williams said that Farquhar, who is 31, will remain at the hospital for a minimum of three weeks. And it can change in a heartbeat.

The National Institutes of Health defines a brain aneurysm as when a weak or thin spot on a blood vessel in the brain balloons and fills with blood.

It was during Friday night's home game that Farquar recorded the last two outs of the 6th during a relief string. Sox pitching coach Don Cooper called it "shocking" when Farquhar lost consciousness, and Renteria said he attempted to keep Farquhar from falling over until trainers and emergency medical technicians quickly surrounded Farquhar, carried him into the clubhouse and loaded him into an ambulance bound for the hospital. The White Sox said he is "stable, but in critical condition".

"You just can't imagine this happening, not to a baseball player in the middle of the game", Sohail Shahpar, Farquhar's longtime agent, told USA Today. "And prayers are more necessary than talk". "Let the medical staff do what they can do and then at the appropriate time, everybody will let us know when it's OK to go ahead and reach out and go see him".

A white No. 43 White Sox jersey hung from the bullpen fence Saturday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Farquhar has been in the majors since 2011 and joined the White Sox during the 2017 season. I'm praying for him and hoping for nothing but the best.

The team has released no additional status updates on Farquhar's treatment at the request of his family.
