Getaround to Power Carsharing in the Uber App

Getaround to Power Carsharing in the Uber App

Uber hopes the move is a step in the right direction, with the company being linked to various controversies recently, which led to the departure of former CEO Travis Kalanick past year.

Uber says "we want to be a better partner to city planners and regulators, so we hope this data will help give them valuable insights for the future".

It is also expanding Uber Bike by JUMP to Washington DC, after the program was being trialed in San Francisco earlier this year.

And Uber is out to rectify the situation and as an important step, the cab aggregator has developed and released an app for the drivers, which could mitigate many such complaints from the drivers.

Beyond the Jump integration, Uber also announced Wednesday it will partner with car-sharing app Getaround to offer auto rentals for riders and drivers within the app.

To be sure, it's unlikely Uber will ever be able to replicate the scale of public transit, even with its many bus-like services like Express Pool. The company announced a slew of new partnerships this week, including ones for an actual car-sharing service, biking, and now more ways to get around cities. Especially with exclusion zones for ICE cars starting to spread around many European capitals and major cities, it doesn't take a marketing PhD to spot lucrative opportunities.

Getaround's vehicle offerings will appear in a side menu in the Uber app. Users will be able to find and unlock an available auto from their phones using wireless technology. "Now you can take a bike to rent your auto and go buy groceries".

The company just completed a deal to acquire acquired bike-sharing service Jump. You'll be able to get an Uber. He reiterated the company's commitment to autonomous vehicles, saying he believed "very important part of the solution of getting rid of auto ownership". Dubbed Uber Rent, app users will soon be able to rent cars for a short time thanks to the firm's new partnership with car-sharing startup Getaround. MasterCard already works with Masabi to bring mobile ticketing to commutes and transit trips. However, as Uber looks to expands its transportation options it may lure some riders back to mass-transit.

The data is being folded into separate similar information that includes taxicabs and other ride hailing companies.

For those familiar with the Transit app, which combines all of the available nearby transit into one convenient dashboard, Uber's suite of announcements Wednesday shows how it essentially aims to become the same one-stop shop.
