Bill Cosby convicted of sexual assault

Bill Cosby convicted of sexual assault

It took the jury 14 hours of deliberations over the course of two days to come back with the verdict.Upon hearing the verdict, Cosby lashed out at District Attorney Kevin Steele calling him an A**HOLE immediately after the DA asked that Cosby be confined immediately.

Ms Constand, a former operations manager of the women's basketball team at Temple University, said she became close with Cosby, who she viewed as a mentor.

Lili Bernard, who alleges Cosby drugged and raped her in the 1990s, has attended every day of the trial, and told BuzzFeed News that a guilty verdict represents "a real shift in humanity, in rape culture".

"This man is nothing like the image he played on TV", she said during closing arguments.

Bill Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault by a jury of his peers on Thursday.

Cosby, who did not testify in the trial and has sat quietly throughout the proceedings, then stood up and yelled in a loud, booming voice: "He doesn't have a plane, you asshole". Cosby's first trial ended in June a year ago with a hung jury.

Nearly 50 women had come forward to accuse the 80 year old famous actor and comedian who will soon find out where he'll be spending his twilight years. They embraced, smiled and chatted, and he gave her a peck on the cheek.

Cosby waved to the crowd outside the courthouse, got into an SUV and left without saying anything.

The decision _ guilty for aggravated indecent assault stemming from the attack on Constand _ was announced in a packed Norristown courtroom. Cosby's team tried multiple times to get the case thrown out; they failed, and the retrial began on April 9.

Their star witness was Marguerite Jackson, a former Temple University colleague of Constand's who testified that Constand spoke of framing a high-profile person for the objective of filing a lawsuit.

Cosby gave the deposition more than a decade ago as part of Constand's civil suit against him, which he settled in 2006 for almost $3.4 million. Cosby said their encounter was consensual. Yet due to a battery of obstacles - expired statutes of limitation chief among them - only Constand has seen her report result in criminal charges against Cosby.

She turned on its head the defense claim that Constand was a con artist, who pursued a grieving father mourning his son's murder and old enough to be her grandfather for a big payout. Cosby was a groundbreaking actor and the first African-American performer to win an Emmy for his role on "I Spy". "The perpetrator of that con is this man, sitting right here". "That man!" she shouted, pointing at Cosby.

"This is his con, and he's laughing like it's amusing, but there's nothing amusing about stripping a woman of her decency", Feden said.

The victim, Andrea Constand, is now 45 years old.

Constand and her mother, Gianna, both testified during the retrial. Prosecutors have noted that Cosby's travel records have large gaps in time.

In addition to Constand, five women who have never before confronted Cosby in a criminal courtroom took the witness stand.
