Windows 10 S Mode: Microsoft Rolls Out Most Recent OS

Windows 10 S Mode: Microsoft Rolls Out Most Recent OS

Microsoft is simply calling this 'the AI platform in Windows 10, ' and promises low latency and real-time results by leveraging a given computer's processing power, even name-dropping video game engines as a possible use case for the technology.

Reports that Windows 10 S will become a "mode" of Windows 10 were confirmed Tuesday night by Microsoft's Joe Belfiore, who stated that the transition will occur next year. This isn't confirmed by Microsoft yet, and users will expect clearer details of these aspects of the S Mode shifting. According to last month's heard claims, those operating Windows 10 Home in S Mode would be able to upgrade to the full-fat version of the operating system for no cost.

PC World contacted him to seek clarification on why Microsoft hadn't included any info on the Windows 10 S version in its blog posts.

The confirmation wouldn't surprise anyone since the operating system was never appreciated by Windows 10 users.

Windows 10 S is described as a fully-functional version of Windows that is created to run smoothly on all hardware. The big catch with Windows 10 S? These new privacy features/changes are already available for the insiders in Fast Ring with the latest Build 17115.

The choice to move to a Windows 10 S mode in their competing devices was expected by many, but it's also muddying the waters and making it more hard to tell which Windows PCs are meant to capture the attention of an education market that is now enamored with Chromebooks.

While Windows 10 S users can upgrade to any other version of Windows 10 but that would require them to pay some cash and only Win 10 Home upgrade is free.

Recent estimates have stated that Chrome OS accounts for about 60% of the U.S. education market in grades K-12.

Given the prevalence of machine-learning and AI in all of our devices, Microsoft wanted to make sure its new framework would complement the wealth of devices out there. Chrome OS has also been expanded to higher-end devices, giving these same audiences the option to opt for more power with devices such as the Google Pixelbook. Vendors can choose to ship with 10S mode enabled by default and save some money on Microsoft license fees.
