Trump attorney discussed pardons with Flynn, Manafort lawyers

The news comes as Mueller's ongoing investigation is reportedly turning towards the President's finances; focusing on the Trump Organization's worldwide business dealings and assets.

John Dowd discussed potential pardons for Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort with their lawyers, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

One of U.S. President Donald Trump's attorneys floated the possibility of pardoning two of the president's former advisers caught up in the Russian Federation probe in discussions with their lawyers a year ago.

Dowd's conversations with a lawyer for Flynn happened after Dowd took over as the president's personal lawyer last summer, the newspaper reported.

In a statement, attorney Ty Cobb, who represents the White House, said there have been no pardons discussed related to the Russian Federation investigation.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders referred to Cobb's statement when asked about the Times' report at a briefing Wednesday, later adding that pardons are "not currently" under consideration.

Flynn, who briefly served as Trump's national security adviser, pleaded guilty in December to one count of "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding his his conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December 2016.

Manafort, a former Trump campaign chairman, has pleaded not guilty.

Unique advice Robert Mueller has actually attached an ex-Trump project authorities to a Russian operative in the weeks preceeding the 2016 governmental political election, inning accordance with a brand-new record Tuesday evening. In a statement to the Times, Dowd denied the report.

Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, leaves his plea hearing at the Prettyman Federal Courthouse in Washington, D.C., on December 1, 2017.

Gates remained in touch with "Person A" late in the campaign, Mueller said, communicating with the associate and van der Zwaan in a "series of calls" in September and October of 2016.

The White House and Trump's lawyers have regularly argued that the president is not considering pardons.

Manafort pleaded not guilty.

While these allegations are still unconfirmed, the president has openly discussed potential pardons for former aides under investigation in the Russian Federation probe, according to two people with knowledge of the interviews who spoke with the Times. An attorney for Gates did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "As far as I know, no discussions". "I really do wish him well", he said. But Sanders said she hadn't asked the president specifically.
