Leicester's Riyad Mahrez: Joining Man City would have been 'a good move'

Leicester's Riyad Mahrez: Joining Man City would have been 'a good move'

Riyad Mahrez admits joining Manchester City 'is a good move for everyone' and suggests he could still leave Leicester City this summer.

"I was away from here because I needed some time to think, it was a hard situation", he told Sky Sports News. However understandably, as the club's standout player, Leicester were not keen on letting him go.

The Algerian global had looked set on a transfer to Manchester City in January, before the Sky Blues backed away from a deal during the final days of the window.

Despite his assurances, Leicester fans will still fear the winger has his heart set on a move to the Etihad, especially as he admitted he wanted to join City in the summer. It was up to me to keep him here for the club, and for me to try to sort it out, protect Riyad and the club. Everyone to be honest has been very good and it's the past now. If we start talking about this it's like coming back to the transfer window and now I'm moving forward, trying to give my best for the team.

Mahrez, who was named the PFA Premier League Player of the Year in 2015/16 and won the African Footballer of the Year award in 2016, has scored 10 goals and assisted another 10 strikes in 31 games across all competitions for Leicester so far this season.

It was only a matter of time following his failed transfer to Manchester City that other clubs would come knocking again, and Corriere dello Sport firmly believe the Italians want him again.

Mahrez also indicated that he could be sold be Leicester this summer.

Mahrez also brushed off the hoax retirement announcement posted on his Facebook page this week.

"I want to thank everybody for the kindness and support they have shown me in this incredible city". I think everyone knew it was a hack.

"We will see with Riyad, he is with Leicester, he is finding a good level", the Frenchman said on Thursday afternoon.
