Jets Ink Bridgewater To One Year Deal

Jets Ink Bridgewater To One Year Deal

Address quarterback: The Jets reportedly are negotiating a deal with Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater is just one of three Minnesota quarterbacks to change teams in less than 24 hours as Case Keenum will join the Denver Broncos and Sam Bradford will sign with the Arizona Cardinals.

Prior to the injury, Bridgewater had the full support of Minnesota's coaching staff as a popular breakout candidate. McCown, Bridgewater and a top quarterback in this year's draft (with one notable exception), and they'll be in far better shape than they were at the end of last season.

For those wondering where the pen and paper is, per ESPN, McCown said he signed the deal with an electronic signature on his phone.

While Bridgewater will presumably compete for the starting spot, the Jets may still be in the hunt for another quarterback. Cousins also has thrown at least 25 touchdown passes in each of the past three seasons while Keenum had 22 last season and a total of 46 in six total seasons (41 games played). Note also that his completion percentage, yards, and interceptions all improved from his rookie year to year two, meaning that Bridgewater was on an upward trajectory in terms of his development prior to getting hurt.

As for the current roster, the deal likely spells bad news for either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg.

Yes, McCown is not the long-term quarterback answer for the Jets. He hit that number in 2017 but is a long shot to do it in back-to-back seasons.

McCown agreed on a one-year contract to keep him in NY, which will reportedly pay McCown $10million for the 2018 season. He made a slight jump in 2015-16, accounting for 3,231 yards and 14 more touchdowns while chiseling his interceptions down to nine. We have talked about the two names involved, Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater. They only had Bryce Petty and Joel Stave under contract, meaning NY will likely want to find one more body for competition or depth.
